THE DEADLINE FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STREET LIGHTING IN LOVECH AND DOYRENTSI HAS BEEN EXTENDED

On 12.09.2022 in the Ministry of Energy the Mayor of Lovech Municipality, Kornelia Marinova, and the Deputy Minister of Energy, Iva Petrova, signed an annex to the Grant Agreement for the project "Energy Efficient Modernization of the Public Outdoor Artificial Lighting Systems of the City of Lovech and Village of Doyrentsi, Municipality of Lovech " under the Programme "Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Security", financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The Annex extends the term of the Agreement from 18 to 25 months in order to ensure the successful completion of the activities under the programme, part of which is the project of the Lovech Municipality to replace the lighting fixtures and build a photovoltaic system for the production of electricity for own needs. The Minister of Energy, Rosen Hristov, was also present at the meeting.

"The project is being implemented at a most opportune time, because the energy situation in the entire country on the verge of winter is worrying," commented Mayor Kornelia Marinova.

She informed Minister Rosen Hristov about the progress of the project, highlighting what has been done so far - about 75% of the lighting fixtures in the city of Lovech have been replaced, 50% of the street lighting control panels have been installed and the equipment necessary for the installation of the photovoltaic plant has been delivered. Kornelia Marinova thanked the minister for the quick reaction for the preparation and signing of the Annex by which the term of the Agreement was extended until full implementation of the project.

The event was also attended by the mayors of Sandanski, Ruse, Smolyan and Veliko Tarnovo, who also signed annexes under the Norwegian programme. Minister Hristov said that in the aggravated situation with the supply of fuels, it is good for the municipalities to focus on the use of their own geothermal sources and to optimize their consumption.

The project "Energy Efficient Modernization of the Public Outdoor Artificial Lighting Systems of the City of Lovech and Village of Doyrentsi, Municipality of Lovech", aims to implement the following energy efficiency measures:

- replacement of the existing conventional street and park lighting fixtures in the city of Lovech and the village of Doirentsi with highly efficient LED lighting fixtures;
- installation of an automated system for centralized control and monitoring of the street lighting;
- implementation of measures for the use of energy from renewable energy sources through the installation of a photovoltaic system for the production of electricity for own needs.

After the signing of the Annex the activities under the Norwegian programme in the municipality of Lovech will end on 14 April 2023 and are expected to result in over 80% total savings of electrical energy for street lighting and also in drastic reduction of CO2 emissions.
